Closing Day: Ends on an Inspirational Note with Steve GillilandNTCA Vice President Sandy Vandevender presided over the closing session on Wednesday morning. He acknowledged the great attendance and the excitement of being in the city that never sleeps. Sandy also presented the Outstanding Associate Member Award to Todd Henecke of Quintrex Systems. Todd has served on NTCA's Associate Member Committee as chairman and also has chaired the Expo Subcouncil.
|Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) president J. Frederick Johnson presented a new award to recognize a telco's economic development efforts. The first recipient of the FRS Community Development Award was Tularosa Basin Telephone Company. Naomi LaFave and Veronica Hardison accepted the award on behalf of the company. Tularosa was recognized for their efforts to help the United Way of Otero County increase their participation with local non-profits and raise funds for improvements to the local Senior Center and "Meals on Wheels" program.|
The closing keynote speaker, Steve Gilliland, led attendees on a joyful ride with his speech entitled "Enjoy the Ride." Gilliland shared insights and inspiration for leadership through stories and examples. Gilliland admonished "Decide what's important to you and never take it for granted." While his stories were humorous and poignant, he imparted the important message that "it's not how you start life or finish it, it's the journey."
