NTCA Applauds Rep. Upton’s Selection as Chair of House Energy and Commerce Committee

December 8, 2010 - NTCA CEO Shirley Bloomfield issued the following statement regarding the House Steering Committee's selection of Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) to chair the House Committee on Energy and Commerce:

"Rep. Upton has a keen understanding of the communications needs of rural Americans and the unique challenges faced by small, community-based telcos in delivering on the promise of next-generation services for rural America. He also has a deep sense of the need for policies that reflect those challenges.

"We at NTCA, and particularly our members serving rural Michigan, have enjoyed a positive relationship with Rep. Upton and his staff. If the caucus approves him as Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, we look forward to working with him in that role."
