Arlington, Va. (September 24, 2013)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, the premier national association representing nearly 900 independent, community-based telecommunications companies, announced today that Laura Withers has been named director of communications overseeing the association’s strategic communications, marketing, media relations, publications and new media initiatives.

Prior to becoming director, Withers served as NTCA communications manager. Before joining NTCA, she served in a public relations role for the National Automobile Dealers Association, touting the legislative, charitable and economic impact of the nation’s new-car and truck dealers. She spent the early part of her career as a journalist and copy editor for a number of daily newspapers in Virginia.

“Laura brings a wealth of experience in communications and a sound understanding of the rural telecommunications industry and the challenges small providers face,” said Shirley Bloomfield, NTCA chief executive officer. “We are thrilled to welcome her into this new role.”

Withers earned a bachelor’s degree in news writing from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.
