Today Tom Wacker, VP of Government Affairs and Elizabeth Crocker, Executive Director of FRS and I went over to the Department of Transportation where we had set up a meeting with David Strickland, Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. David had spent some time working for Chairman Rockefeller on the Senate Commerce Committee before his new role at DOT. Our intent had been to bring him up to speed on the FRS Distracted Driving Initiative but imagine our surprise when we walked into the meeting to see 8 or 9 other folks from the agency there and interested in talking about the Foundation’s initiatives on distracted driving, bill stuffers, youth surveys as well as looking for ways to share information and potentially partner on E911 initiatives. It was a great exchange and another example of looking to build bridges with folks in all areas of the public policy arena.
