General Summary:
Directs all human resources/personnel activities including recruiting and hiring, maintains positive employee relations, develops and monitors personnel policies and procedures ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state and local laws affecting employment; manages and supervises Executive/HR Assistant, assists in development of salary ranges and compensation administration programs; develops and coordinates quarterly coaching sessions and training programs; administers employee benefits; and maintains personnel records. Serves as the backup for processing company payroll and related reporting. Oversees Safety Manager and Safety Coordinator roles which are responsible for all safety related aspects of the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Supervises Executive/HR Assistant
o Develops and communicates goals for department and individual direct reports that support the company’s mission
o Encourages direct reports and others to resolve problems
o Recognizes and encourages behaviors that contribute to the success of the department
• Manages human resource practices and functions
o Monitors state and federal laws and regulations relating to human resources, evaluates impact on the company’s human resources policies and practices, and recommends necessary changes to President & CEO
o Plans, implements, and evaluates employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices, and recommends necessary changes to President & CEO
• Directs all employment-related activities including communications, recruiting, hiring, orientation, disciplinary actions and terminations to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations affecting employment
• Directs company Wellness Program
• Assists with company compensation program development including the development of salary ranges, pay-related policies, performance management systems and process used for payroll adjustments
• Administers employee benefits program to ensure timely and accurate enrollments and resolves benefits questions and issues by conferring with vendors and employees as needed; designs and conducts programs to educate employees on the benefit program
• Maintains employee records including salary and benefits data, performance and disciplinary action records, and other information in accordance with regulations
• Assesses employee training needs and develops in-house training programs or contracts with external trainers to provide needed programs
• Monitors worker’s compensation claims and coordinates correspondence and contact between employee and insurance carrier, updates OSHA documents and reports as appropriate
• Plans and administers Human Resources and Safety operating and capital budget
• Knowledgeable of payroll functions and serves as backup in processing payroll
• Works with Safety Manager and Coordinator in developing and maintaining company Safety Manual and assists with implementation of safety policies and procedures
• Performs all other related duties as assigned by President & CEO
Required Knowledge
• 5 or more years of experience in a HR Director role
• Certificate through Society of Human Resource Management preferred
• Advanced knowledge of human resources principles and practices
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational offerings, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks
• Advanced knowledge of local, state and federal human resource laws and regulations
• Knowledge of management principles and practices
• Knowledge of payroll principles and practices
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
• Knowledge of worker’s compensation and property/automobile insurance claims administration
