Arlington, Va. (July 9, 2012) – The National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) today issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield regarding NTCA’s filing of comments, together with its rural allies, in support of the prompt reform of Universal Service Fund contributions.
“NTCA strongly supports the FCC's focus on reforming the contribution mechanisms that enable universal service. Universal service has relied far too long on an unstable contribution base, and NTCA has been calling for years for reforms of this system. Rather than delaying matters further by reinventing the system, we hope that the FCC will use the existing system to take a common-sense approach that quickly closes obvious loopholes, broadens the base of contributors, and then narrows the gaps that need to be filled through additional reforms.”
The National Telecommunications Cooperative Association is the premier association representing more than 570 locally owned and controlled telecommunications cooperatives and commercial companies throughout rural and small-town America. NTCA provides its members with legislative, regulatory and industry representation; meetings; publications and educational programs; and an array of employee benefit programs.
