Common Language Location Identification (CLLI) Codes

(Common Language is a registered trademark and CLLI is a trademark of Telcordia.)

Under the terms of a license agreement with Telcordia, NTCA has a limited right to create or update Common LanguageTM Location Identification (CLLI) codes for NTCA member companies. NTCA can also process CLLI requests for affiliates of NTCA members; this includes subsidiaries of members and partnerships or joint ventures in which the member or its subsidiary has an ownership. NTCA cannot process code requests from non-member companies.

A valid CLLI code is important because it uniquely identifies a specific switch, in a specific building, in a specific place. All CLLI codes are stored in a national database maintained by Telcordia. The assignment of a CLLI code is a prerequisite to the assignment of an NXX for switches. Switching codes are also stored in the local exchange routing guide (LERG). CLLI codes should be updated to reflect major changes, such as cut over to a new switch type or changes in host/remote relationships.
