VOTW: Analysts Predict the Future of Technology
And last but not least, our video of the week (VOTW).
Live from CES 2012
The following is a guest post from Kevin McGuire, vice president of wireless operations for Enhanced Telecommunications Corp., in Sunman, Indiana.
Another year, another CES is upon us. My sense is that it is much larger than last year’s event. The first day on the show floor I was unable to have a conversation with a vendor because so many people were there. Like in years past, I wanted to write a guest post to offer some insight into items I feel might be of importance to the rural telecom industry. Of course the show is so big that it is impossible to get to everything, so apologies if I missed something. Read more
CES: New “Better” TV Sets?
The Leichtman Research Group recently released some interesting data concerning television set ownership in the United States. There is an HDTV-capable TV set in 69% of U.S. households. Further, 48% of U.S. households have more than one HDTV, and one-third have more than two HDTVs. VOTW: Roku Serves 1 Billion Users and Counting
And last but not least, our video of the week (VOTW), courtesy of Viodi TV.
Brian Jacquet, director of marketing for Roku, discusses who is using their product and how they got to 1 billion views and 11 hours per week of playing time per device, while speaking at the Broadband Unlimited Conference at CES 2011. Interestingly, Roku’s demographic tends to be older and less geek-like than the typical over-the-top video viewer. He also suggests that sales have increased as awareness of over-the-top video to the television has increased.

CES Wrap-Up: New Innovations or New Questions to Answer?
From all reports the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas ended well with approximately 140,000 people having attended. What did we learn?
Perhaps there are more questions now than answers. Will all consumer appliances, especially telecommunications devices be “smart?” There are reports of “retro” boxes that can be added to older versions of HDTVs that allow them to be “connected.” Is that where we’re going?
Will all TVs be connected? If the TV doesn’t have a direct connection to the Internet, will a Blu-Ray player take on that roll and provide a wider variety of content possibilities? Read more
