Missouri AG Wants Mediacom to Compensate Subscribers for Blackouts

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster recently sent a letter to Mediacom advising it to reimburse subscribers blacked out in a four-day retransmission spat between the MSO and local channel KOMU-TV.

“It is just plain wrong to think that you can drop one of the major networks, like NBC, and maintain that the contract between the provider and the consumer hasn’t materially changed to the detriment of the consumer,” Koster’s letter said, according to a post at  Legal Newsline. Read more

Whole-Home DVR: A Necessary Feature of Your Video Bundle?

Several video service providers are now offering whole-home DVR services, which leaves me wondering, is whole-home DVR a mandatory feature in order to remain competitive in the video marketplace?

Whole-Home DVR typically lets users record and playback from multiple locations within the household. When users choose to watch the same recording, they can do so in different rooms with the ability to fast-forward, pause or rewind without affecting other viewers. Mediacom Going Private?

Mediacom Communications announced today that it has received a non-binding proposal that would result in the company going private.

Rocco Commisso, founder of Mediacom Communications and Chairman and CEO of the firm, is the author of the proposal. No changes in management or day-to-day operations are contemplated.  Commisso would pay $6 per share in cash to acquire all Class A and Class B stock.  Commisso currently owns 40% of the Mediacom common stock, reflecting an 87% voting majority. Retransmission Consent Disputes

As 2009 drew to a close, there were a number of high-profile retransmission consent disputes between pay-TV companies and television distribution companies.

Time Warner Cable (TWC) and News Corp. engaged in a very public fee disagreement. TWC ran an ad campaign urging its customers to support the company’s efforts to “get tough” on rate increases from broadcasters. But the dust has now settled and an agreement has been reached. Read more
