Dish Network and The Weather Channel Reach Agreement
Dish Network and the Weather Channel announced a new multi-year agreement earlier this week. This ensures continued distribution of The Weather Channel to Dish Network subscribers.
As part of the new agreement, a provision was made that will allow both companies to collaborate on new state-of-the-art forecasting services designed especially for satellite customers. This development will include localized weather programming in addition to the Weather Channel’s primary feed on Dish Network channel 214. It will include interactive TV applications as well as new Internet and mobile services. Deployment of the newer services is predicted to begin this summer. Read more
Will Dish Network Subscribers Lose the Weather Channel?
According to the New York Times, Dish Network had not dropped TWC as of early Friday morning. The contract for carriage between Dish Network and Weather Channel reportedly expired at midnight on May 21.
Continued carriage is a pretty good indication that negotiations are still underway and that a new deal may yet be reached.
