3D Without the Glasses?

“Autostereoscopic,”  is the term for what Toshiba says it will employ with a new line of 3D television sets that are predicted to be on the market before the end of this year.  The term autostereoscopic is used to describe the process in which the viewer is not required to wear glasses to see the dimensional image.

Toshiba has developed a process  for the new 3D televisions that will emit rays of light from different angles creating the illusion of multi-dimensions.  One of the critiscisms of 3D televison is that it isn’t possible to provide communal viewing if everyone watching is not equipped with the special glasses.  In most cases the 3D glasses require batteries and must be in full synchronization with the television to work properly.  The price per pair can run $150 or more.

If the technology is successful and does not contribute to other concerns about 3D, including making those who watch it sick, Toshiba could soon change the face of 3D viewing.
