AT&T Launches Online Video Site
Last week AT&T announced the launch of AT&T Entertainment, a free Web site which offers streaming TV and movies to the public.
The site offers TV shows, after their initial network airing, and movies from a variety of networks and studios, including ABC and NBC Universal (via an agreement with Hulu), CBS Interactive and dozens more. The site, www.entertainment.att.net, is available to all consumers, regardless of whether or not they are AT&T subscribers.
The move is part of an effort by the telco to reach customers across all three screens, the TV, mobile phone and now the PC.
“We know our customers want to be able to access their favorite content anytime, anywhere,” said Dan York, executive vice president of content and programming, AT&T. “AT&T Entertainment provides the one-stop destination to watch your favorite TV shows and movies on your PC, wherever you have a broadband connection. The site will grow and evolve to make more content available to consumers in new and better ways.”
It’s clear that this announcement is merely the first step in AT&T’s online video strategy, whether it be integrated with its U-Verse service or part of the industry’s “TV Everywhere” authentication strategy.
