Comcast Launches Yellow Pages on TV

Comcast Media Center, a division of Comcast Cable, launched “Yellow Pages on TV” last week, an interactive application that allows consumers to access a complete listing of local merchants at the push of a button on a regular digital cable remote.

The application is available to local cable operators served by Comcast’s HITS AxIS, a suite of advanced video services.

For Comcast, local cable providers and FourthWall Media (the interactive content company in Plano, Texas, that owns the Yellow Pages application), the service promises new revenue from local advertisers.

With the application, local businesses can pay for marketing services, such as higher search rankings in the application, banner ads, video ads and special services that allow a customer to send an e-mail or place a call to the company through the TV.

Forbes notes that there is a range of pricing, from $8 month which gets a company listed in bold typeface, to $5,000 a month which might include five 10-minute videos and a higher search ranking. Marketers can also leave coupons or special offers to consumers who tag their company listings as a “favorite” within the application.
