Dish Network and The Weather Channel Reach Agreement

Dish Network and the Weather Channel announced a new multi-year agreement earlier this week. This ensures continued distribution of The Weather Channel to Dish Network subscribers.

As part of the new agreement, a provision was made that will allow both companies to collaborate on new state-of-the-art forecasting services designed especially for satellite customers. This development will include localized weather programming  in addition to the Weather Channel’s primary feed on Dish Network channel 214. It will include interactive TV applications as well as new Internet and mobile services. Deployment of the newer services is predicted to begin this summer.

In a Dish Network press release, Senior Vice President Dave Shull is quoted as saying, “Through this new partnership with The Weather Channel, Dish Network is giving our subscribers exactly what they’ve been asking for and more.”

The release provides a description of the “unique” new 24/7 localized channel and personized weather reports via the Android mobile platform and the web. “This agreement recognizes the importance of cross platform video delivery, ensuring that our subscribers will have the most detailed local weather information available at their fingertips anytime, anywhere,”  said Shull.
