Verizon Launches Website: LTE in Rural America
Just a few weeks ago, Verizon revealed that it was negotiating with a number of rural telcos on partnership agreements to deploy a 4G, LTE network in rural territories. The carrier just launched a new website, LTE in Rural America, which offers more details on its plans and invites interested parties to contact the company directly.
Verizon Wireless provides a unique opportunity for selected participants to leverage the company’s technical and spectrum resources. We are seeking companies that can assist in bringing the benefits of 4G LTE service to rural areas that currently lack Verizon Wireless coverage. Verizon Wireless may work with rural companies that have towers and backhaul capabilities, even if those companies are not currently wireless operators. Together, we will plan and coordinate a local LTE deployment schedule that makes sense for both Verizon Wireless and the rural company that we are collaborating with.
Verizon has pledged to rollout LTE in 25- 30 markets before yearend. The company plans to have the service available for some 100 million points of presence (POPs) in 2010, and continue to deploy the network over the next two to three years.
For more, visit the website. In the weeks ahead, NTCA and the New Edge will continue to monitor this developing story.
