Designed to ensure that NTCA retains its historic grassroots strength in today’s increasingly competitive policy-making arena, the ultimate success of this campaign lies with the effective use of four fundamental tools: public relations, financial support, NTCA professional staff, and most importantly you – the association’s Key Contact members.

Key Contact Job Description
NTCA SPIRIT Key Contacts agree to the following:

General Responsibilities –

  • To build and maintain strong, positive relationships with assigned policymakers, and to keep abreast of, and advocate, NTCA policy positions and initiatives.
Specific Responsibilities –
  • Education:
    • Regularly review association publications, informational bulletins, action alerts, and web site at www.ntca.org.
    • Remain abreast of industry events and trends.
    • Earn Grassroots Certificate by completing NTCA’s online grassroots course.

  • Action:
    • Respond to all NTCA action items on a timely basis and engage colleagues to participate in such efforts to the extent required/necessary.
    • Meet personally with assigned policymaker(s) or their key staff at least twice each year.
    • Periodically invite assigned policymaker(s) to visit local facilities, attend board meetings or other system functions, or NTCA events.
    • Deliver NTCA Telephone Education Committee Organization (TECO) campaign contributions to assigned policymaker(s) as necessary.
    • Attend NTCA meetings related to Key Contact functions as necessary.
    • Participate in media events as necessary.
    • Contribute and otherwise participate in NTCA’s TECO and related political events

  • Accountability:
    • Promptly report to NTCA Government Affairs staff all actions and outcomes tied to efforts undertaken in response to NTCA Action Alerts and/or requests.
    • Keep NTCA informed of all other contacts with assigned policymakers.
Commitment Responsibilities –
  • NTCA SPIRIT Key Contacts are expected to make at least a one-year commitment to the program, though the Government Affairs Committee retains the authority to extend and withdraw Key Contact invitations to incumbents and new candidates annually.
