Cooperative, Nonprofit Corporation or Commercial Company - incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) serving 50,000 access lines or less organized for or engaged in providing telecommunications service to their subscribers, members or customers.

Affiliated ILEC - owned by a cooperative, nonprofit corporation or commercial company member and is an ILEC serving 50,000 access lines or less organized for or engaged in providing telecommunications service to its subscribers, members or customers.

Associate Member- supplier of goods and services to the telecommunications industry. Suppliers include entities such as insurance companies, manufacturers, other rural utilities, statewide providers of equal access, and consultants such as accounting, engineering, and law firms.

Association - is a local, state, or regional organization of telephone companies.

International - an ILEC serving 50,000 access lines or less outside the United States that has a commitment to service and objectives compatible with those of NTCA.

Subsidiary - is an entity affiliated with a cooperative, nonprofit corporation or commercial company member that was created to provide telecommunications services including but not limited to wireless, Internet, cable television, and direct broadcast satellite.

Note: There is no membership category for CLEC operations, unless, the CLEC is a subsidiary of a cooperative, nonprofit corporation or commercial company. The CLEC may join as a Subsidiary member.
