Job Description

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of the central office FTTH access (Dasan Zhone), telephony (Metaswitch and EWSD) and transmission equipment including special circuits, cable television (CATV), head end, and fiber multiplexer equipment. Will be part of a Team that is involved in the operation of the hardware/software to meet the growing needs of the Company’s data network. The ideal candidate will be technically savvy, have excellent communication skills and strong analytical and troubleshooting ability. The job entails meeting customer requirements with new hosted unified communication and IP services and working with technicians and customers to resolve troubles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Operate, maintain, test and assist engineers to repair complex TDM switching, circuit and data/digital IP equipment
Operate and troubleshoot TDM, IP core and CPE equipment
Survey, analyze and clear alarms
May work on cell, circuit, radio and network terminal equipment
Schedule and perform software back-ups and updates as required
Remove or replace connections on wire and fiber optic distributing frames
Perform turn-up, acceptance, installation and provisioning of circuits/T1’s
Provide advanced support and trouble-shooting working thru problem determination and resolution to Technicians in the field
Maintain batteries, rectifiers and fuse alarms in central office DC and AC power plants
Place, test and splice fiber optic cable
Develop/maintain positive working relationship with co-workers/cross departmental
Perform inspection and maintenance activities on regular basis
Maintain documentation/SOP’s for all installations, maintenances, repairs and inspections
Comply with health, safety and environmental policies
Remove any unused or non-functional equipment responsibly
Maintain a positive attitude, and project a high level of professionalism on behalf of RTC
Maintain a clean, neat, organized and efficient work area, lab, data center, racks and closets
Maintain and regularly update plant records and trouble ticket database in a timely manner
Dispatch the outside plant Service Technicians, perform installation work requests from the service orders and dispatch them for service repair.
Assemble and configure transmission and FTTH components and services
Problem determination and resolution for Metaswitch, Dasan Zhone and Innovative systems (or equivalent)
Maintain and administer the internal MetaSwitch network and external VoIP and hosted customer installations
Install and repair equipment associated within those environments described above as needed
Monitor and maintain all external and internal trunking between office and networks and converse with engineers on routing and advanced IP protocols
Acts as a back-up to the Service Technician and performs their job duties as assigned
Serves in standby status for an entire week on a rotating basis. Willing to work in maintenance windows after hours
