Job Description

NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association is a telecom trade association with the goal of ensuring that rural Americans receive broadband services on par with those available to urban residents—and at a reasonable cost. We believe the future of rural America is directly tied to the quality of communication services available. NTCA members deliver high-quality communications services in the most sparsely populated, highest-cost rural areas of the country. 

We are looking for a Communications and Advocacy Assistant to enhance the capabilities of the communications and advocacy teams. As our Communications and Advocacy Assistant, you will support both departments and have the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to multi-task, attention to detail, and motivation as you work in a deadline-oriented environment. 

What will you do?

Communications:

  1. Supports content creation and message support for NTCA’s social media outlets and the NTCA website.
  2. Assists with creation and presentation of digital analytics reports.
  1. Monitors the Communications Department proxy accounts daily and routes emails to appropriate staff.
  2. Prepares and edits PowerPoint presentations for speaking engagements as needed.
  3. Monitors and tracks key dates for social media engagement (FCC open meetings, congressional hearings, etc.).
  4. Assists with production of webinars.
  5. Assists with media monitoring report.
  6. Effectively manages internal communications with focus on transparency and timeliness among internal groups.
  7. Contributes to messaging initiatives with an understanding of how NTCA fits in the broad policy and communications landscape in DC and within the states.
  8. Performs other special projects or duties, as required.

 

Advocacy:

  1. Provides administrative support to the Government Affairs Department including monitoring the GA proxy email account, RSVPing lobbyists for fund-raising events, posting     website updates, copying and packing of conference materials; preparing expense reports; filing lobbying reports and ordering office supplies.

  1. Supports the activities of NTCA’s political action committee including entering receipts and performing payroll imports, sending thank you letters to contributors, preparing contributor recognition such as the looping PowerPoint for conferences, updating the PAC website, and serving as backup on PAC functions when the Advocacy Programs Manager is away.
  2. Assists with the Association’s premier grassroots event, the Legislative & Policy Conference, by corresponding with state coordinators, managing attendee Hill appointments in Knowlegis, RSVPing members for fundraising events, updating materials on the website and app, copying materials that are to be distributed onsite, distributing feedback and follow up requests from Hill appointments and mailing thank you notes.
  3. Provides support for fly-ins held throughout the year and assists NTCA members with scheduling site visits for government officials including corresponding with participants and preparing itineraries and materials.
  4. Serves as back-up for the Legal Assistant, preparing division document calendar when Legal Assistant is away.
  5. Performs other special projects or duties, as required.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Understanding and advanced working knowledge of software including MS Office, Windows, membership databases, PAC related databases and Adobe; social media platforms; telephone and business etiquette; division practices and general office policies and procedures; understanding and basic knowledge of office equipment.
  • strong writing and editing skills; good interpersonal, telephone and oral communications skills; ability to manage a variety of tasks concurrently; meeting deadlines and strong organization, typing, and proofreading skills. 
  • Practical knowledge, skills & abilities usually acquired through vocational training and a minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience.
