Job Description

Northern Telephone is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual to lead our team as General Manager. Northern’s General Manager plans, coordinates and controls the daily activities of the Cooperative both directly and through subordinate managers; establishes current and long-range goals, objectives, plans and policies, for review and approval by the Board of Directors; and provides advice, guidance, direction and authorization to carry out the major plans, standards and procedures, consistent with established policies and procedures as approved by the Board of Directors.

Job and Skills Description

• Ensures business operations comply with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
• Serves as a Cooperative representative to regulatory agencies, legislative bodies and industry associations, as appropriate.
• Evaluates new business opportunities and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.
• Meets regularly with employees to ensure business operations are being executed in accordance with Cooperative policies and procedures.
• Oversees the adequacy and soundness of the Cooperative’s financial position and structure.
• Reviews operating results of the Cooperative and compares them to established objectives, making recommendations to correct unsatisfactory results.
• Represents the Cooperative in a professional manner when communicating with members, customers, vendors, associations, the local community and the general public.
• Creates a positive and safe work environment to promote the success of the business.
• May perform other related duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Other Requirements
• Must have knowledge of telecom operations, regulatory environment and financial principles.
• Must demonstrate excellent skills in leadership and management, communications, maintaining employee morale and prioritizing multiple work assignments.
• Must be able to accept responsibility for decisions and work under occasional stressful situations.
• Think analytically and be a problem solver.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field or preferably a Master of Business Administration, plus seven to ten years of experience in telecom management. Cooperative experience is a plus.
