Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Inside Plant Field Technician installs, maintains, repairs and tests telecommunications equipment at customer locations and in the Central Office, Data Center and Remote sites.
The Inside Plant Field Technician reports directly to the Central Office Supervisor.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
Effectively and efficiently performs job duties, including:
 Install transport equipment and/or other related equipment.
 Maintain transport, switching and IP equipment.
 Ability to use troubleshooting equipment including OTDR/Light Meter, TBERD, Ethernet Test Set, Toner, etc..
 Install and repair or replace Central Office equipment in all offices and in remote sites (cabinets).
 Commission and provision a wide variety of telecommunications equipment (Cisco, Calix, Accedian…).
 Maintain transmission equipment to ensure uptime of primary and redundant network facilities.
 Perform moves/adds/changes of equipment as needed.
 Assist in the maintenance of the fiber optic cable systems and light wave equipment.
 Maintain carrier system and related equipment to ensure optimum service is provided for circuits, including voice, IP, and data communications.
 Install and maintain power plant (i.e. batteries) and standby equipment.
 Perform regular site inspections to ensure equipment and facilities are in order.
 Assist with requisitions, materials and supplies as needed.
 Responsible for accurate time and materials usage reporting, reporting plant information/condition, and submission of other forms and paperwork
as required.
 Participate in training to stay informed and technically competent.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
 Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
 Able to work without constant supervision.
 Understand and utilize basic installation techniques.
 Able to read blueprints/floor plans.
 Able to read simple mechanical, electrical, MOPs and instructional documentation.
 Able to write Method of Procedure Documents.
 Maintain good housekeeping practices.
 Measure and mark floors, position and assemble iron work and cable rack.
 Drill floors, install raised floors, install anchors, level, align and secure equipment including earthquake requirements.
 Aware of procedures for working around and on "in service equipment."
 Know standard wiring color code.
 Connect all signal, bus and power cable to include butt, strip, fan, form, wire wrap, and/or crimp.
 Properly run, dress, form, secure and sew all cabling.
 Basic knowledge of AC/DC power and installation.
 Perform continuity test with Multi Meter or CAT 5 tester.
 Adhere to circuit pack handling and electrostatic discharge procedures.
 Understand and use established safety requirements/procedures for equipment, ESD, power, & radiation.
 Able to competently use basic hand tools.
 Able to use electric tools.
 Understanding of OEM and Customer installation requirements including Drawings & QC Standards.
 Install frames, cabinets, and misc. equipment including batteries and BBUs.
 Install cable ladder, radio cabinets & components, transmission equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical certifications and electronics training are preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in Central Office/Data Center operations.

EQUIPMENT USED
Tools and equipment used in the telecommunications industry, OTDR/Light Meter, TBERD, Ethernet Test Set, Toner, etc..; computer, monitor, printer, hardware and software packages, computer peripheral equipment i.e. mouse and keyboard; Microsoft Suite.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 Will be asked to provide 39 months driving record. Position requires insurability under GRTI insurer requirements.
 Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
