Foundation for Rural Service Awards Scholarships to Dozens of Students Across Rural America
More than 50 rural students awarded

Arlington, Va., (May 1, 2018)—Today, the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) announced that it has awarded $107,500 in scholarships to 53 students in rural communities served by members of NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association. The FRS Scholarship Program awards one-time scholarships to students from across rural America for their first year of college, university or vocational-technical school. Each student is sponsored by an NTCA member company.

This year, NTCA associate member NISC announced it would celebrate its own 50th anniversary by gifting $25,000 to FRS. With a portion of that money, FRS created the NISC Community Leadership Scholarships. These one-time scholarships of $1,000 recognize 10 extraordinary rural students who have not only excelled academically but have proven to be exemplary in their community involvement.

Additional awards include:

  • One $7,000 Everett Kneece Scholarship
  • Four $5,000 JSI Staurulakis Family Scholarships to students with an interest in science, math, medicine or engineering (STEM)
  • Two $1,500 TMS Scholarships
  • Three $500 Roger Alan Cox Scholarships (sponsored by Herman & Whiteaker, LLC)
  • Thirty-three $2,500 FRS Scholarships

“Our team at FRS looks forward to scholarship season each year—recognizing students who have proven their academic prowess and showcase a remarkable love and appreciation for their communities reminds us why what we do each and every day has such a real, tangible impact," said FRS Executive Director Jessica Golden. "We thank all of our donors who make this program possible and wish all awardees the best in their future endeavors.”
