Arlington, Va. (September 14, 2018)—Next week, representatives from the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will travel throughout Washington and Oregon, and NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association is pleased to announce that this travel will include a visit to the association’s annual Fall Conference in Seattle. On September 18, a representative from the FCC will present during a session on fighting robocalls and spoofing.

The presentation for NTCA’s membership in Seattle is part of the FCC’s upcoming Pacific Northwest Consumer Outreach Rural Tour, during which the Commission will visit several communities to provide consumer information and resources about telecommunications issues that affect their daily lives.

The goal of the FCC’s Rural Tour is to build partnerships with local consumer-oriented entities throughout Washington and Oregon, including in rural areas of those states. Topics covered during tour events will be wide-ranging and include such issues as robocalls, scam alerts, broadband deployment and digital inclusion, how to protect your mobile devices and how to file complaints and comments with the FCC. The FCC is a valuable partner to rural telcos and their customers as we all jointly seek to close the digital divide.

The FCC’s tour will begin Monday, September 17, with a Consumer Town Hall in Mount Vernon, Wash., and make several stops throughout the area before concluding Thursday, September 20 at Canby Public Library in Canby, Ore. A full agenda of free, public events can be found online.
