NTCA Statement on FCC Announcement Regarding Implementation of New Universal Service Initiatives

Arlington, Va., (May 2, 2019) – NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer, Shirley Bloomfield, about today’s FCC announcement regarding the implementation of new universal service initiatives supporting smaller rural carrier investments and operations.

“NTCA members continue to lead the way in rural broadband deployment and building future-proof networks wherever possible. The steps the FCC took in December that are being implemented today will give providers choices on how best to obtain the support needed to improve and sustain broadband access in the deeply rural areas they serve. Access to high-speed broadband is critical to providing essential services like health care, education, and emergency response. It is also a necessary condition for building businesses and driving economic success. NTCA is still evaluating the details of today’s announcements, but we hope that the options and measures announced today will give many of our members even more opportunity to bring even better services to rural America. We look forward to continued work with the FCC to implement these essential initiatives.”
