Arlington, Va., (November 20, 2019)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield regarding the “5G Spectrum Act of 2019” introduced by Sens. Wicker (R-Miss.) and Thune (R-S.D.).

“NTCA supports the efforts of Sens. Wicker and Thune to make mid-band spectrum available for public auction via the ‘5G Spectrum Act of 2019’. This bill is a positive step toward realizing greater broadband access across the country as mid-band spectrum will play an important role in the transition to 5G and the provision of wireless broadband services in rural and urban areas alike.

“NTCA looks forward to future conversations regarding both the auction structure and process, as well as how the proceeds might be used to advance a number of important public policy goals, including enhancing the effectiveness of existing programs that promote the deployment and sustainability of broadband networks in rural America.”
