Arlington, Va. (March 12, 2020)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield on the “Consumer Data Privacy & Security Act” introduced by Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.).

“As providers based in the communities they serve, NTCA members take consumer privacy seriously and believe that sound policy must rest upon principles of clear notice, consumer choice, and data security. We thank Senator Moran for seeking to advance a much-needed conversation about such issues by introducing this legislation.

“We appreciate in particular the bill’s acknowledgment of the need for flexibility and consistency of standards for smaller businesses, and we look forward to working with policymakers as the debate over these issues moves forward in the hope that we can find a bipartisan consensus outcome.”
