New Cybersecurity Resources Offer Guidance on NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recognizing that ongoing cybersecurity vigilance is vital to securing the nation’s critical infrastructure and in support of new government guidance to help improve small broadband providers’ security efforts, NTCA recently updated its educational Cybersecurity Series to provide even more timely direction to members.

The NTCA Cybersecurity Series is a comprehensive guide consisting of six components designed to help executives, board officers and operational staff of small broadband providers improve and sustain a risk-management approach to cybersecurity. The series was recently updated to reflect the new National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and includes a sector-specific guide to the framework with an evaluation tool tailored to the unique operating circumstances of small broadband providers. The six-part series includes:
•    Part 1: The Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
•    Part 2: Sector-Specific Guide to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Evaluation Tool (recently updated)
•    Part 3: Discussion Draft/Template for Cybersecurity and Supply Chain Risk Management Plan
•    Part 4: Cyber Incident Response Plan
•    Part 5: Employee Cybersecurity Training Video
•    Part 6: Protecting Your Network and Data Printable Poster

The NTCA Cybersecurity Series complements the association’s many other cybersecurity educational efforts, including promoting information sharing among broadband providers about cyber threats and mitigation efforts through CyberShare: The Small Broadband Provider ISAC and hosting the 2024 CyberShare Summit, October 27–29 in Louisville. The Cybersecurity Series is now available for free on the NTCA website and will be promoted to NTCA members and CyberShare participants throughout the summer and fall.

“Cybercrime is the fastest growing crime in the United States, and sharing resources, knowledge and experiences across the communications industry is an essential element of improving the whole security environment,” said NTCA General Counsel and Vice President of Policy Jill Canfield. “But industry resources are expansive and can be overwhelming and difficult to apply to the unique needs of a small communications company. Our sector-specific guide to the NIST Framework 2.0 provides targeted, actionable strategies for implementation of the framework in a small-company setting.”
