IT Specialist I

Job Description

At MTC, we impact people’s lives every day by delivering state‑of‑the‑art technology to our communities — and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to help keep that technology running smoothly. As our IT Specialist, you’ll play a hands‑on role in supporting the systems that power both our organization and our managed IT services clients. From networks to servers to end‑user devices, you’ll help ensure our technology stays reliable, secure, and ready for the future.

If you thrive on problem‑solving, enjoy working with a wide range of hardware and software, and feel energized by helping people overcome technical challenges, you’ll fit right in. This role blends technical expertise with real‑world impact — helping us deliver dependable service, strengthen cybersecurity, and support the high‑speed connectivity our region relies on.

You’ll be a great fit as our IT Specialist if you:

  • Enjoy digging into technical issues — diagnosing problems, identifying solutions, and getting systems back on track quickly.
  • Feel confident working across a wide range of technologies: PCs, servers, networks, wireless systems, phone systems, and more.
  • Are comfortable supporting both internal users and external clients with professionalism and clear communication.
  • Appreciate variety — from configuring new equipment to troubleshooting connectivity to assisting with cybersecurity best practices.
  • Don’t mind rolling up your sleeves for hands‑on work, whether that’s cabling, equipment installation, or onsite support.

What this role is all about:

As an IT Specialist, you’ll support the operation, maintenance, repair, and security of internal and client systems — including servers, networks, PCs, peripherals, phone systems, and associated hardware and software. You’ll perform configuration changes, install equipment, assist with implementing new technologies, and help uphold cybersecurity policies. You’ll also support the delivery of reliable, high‑speed internet to the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and provide Tier 1 support for desktops, laptops, peripherals, operating systems, and software.
  • Assist with basic server tasks and support network infrastructure, including wireless systems, firewalls, switches, and Ethernet/fiber cabling.
  • Support digital/analog/VoIP phone systems and security camera systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment; coordinate with vendors as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and customers, including procurement of hardware/software.
  • Serve as an escalation point for Helpdesk and IT Technicians.
  • Train end‑users on procedures and security best practices.
  • Maintain system backups and security; participate in after‑hours maintenance and on‑call rotation.

What You Bring:

  • Knowledge of structured cabling, operating systems (Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS), and hardware installation/troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN networks, routing, firewalls, switches, and security roles/authentication.
  • Experience supporting end‑users with workstation issues and connectivity.
  • Familiarity with virtualization, backup solutions, storage, and server hardware.
  • Strong problem‑solving, diagnostic, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work after hours/on‑call when needed.
