NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association released the following statement from CEO Shirley Bloomfield after the FCC voted to rescind a January 2025 Declaratory Ruling on the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act:
“NTCA supports the FCC's decision to rescind the Declaratory Ruling, which was overly broad and burdensome for small broadband providers. While cybersecurity threats to our nation's communications infrastructure are serious and deserve prompt action, the Commission's previous approach would have imposed vague requirements that could have burdened rural telecommunications providers without effectively addressing threats. NTCA looks forward to continuing our engagement with the FCC and other stakeholders to support practical, effective cybersecurity measures that enhance network security while allowing rural providers to focus resources on delivering reliable broadband service to underserved communities.”
