(January 26) In a filing with the FCC, NTCA urged the commission to reject the proposed Nexstar–TEGNA merger, warning it would further concentrate broadcast power, drive up retransmission fees and accelerate the loss of video services for rural consumers who rely on local stations for news and emergency information. NTCA also wrote that the commission lacks the legal authority to waive the statutory 39% national television ownership cap.
