Quick Tips for Optimal Viewing and Downloading PDFs

For personal security reasons, it is recommended you keep your Internet browser updated to the latest version.

Open PDFs in Google Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right of the browser, click the 3 vertical dots.
  3. Select "Settings."
  4. At the bottom, click "Advanced."
  5. Under "Privacy and security," click "Content settings."
  6. Near the bottom, click "PDF documents."
  7. Turn off "Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome."

Open PDFs in Mozilla Firefox
Firefox includes a built-in PDF viewer to display PDF files inside the browser window. This PDF viewer is on by default.

Open PDFs in Microsoft Edge
Windows 10 users will have Edge set to view PDFs by default.
Adjusting settings for Edge is handled through your Windows operating system setups.
It is recommended you contact your IT department for assistance:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps
  2. Click the "Choose default apps by file type" link.
  3. Scroll down and click the app that is currently set a default for .pdf, and select Microsoft Edge from the list.

Open PDFs in Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
Enable the Adobe PDF browser add-on:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and choose Tools > Manage Add-ons.
  2. Under Add-on Types, select "Toolbars and Extensions."
  3. In the Show menu, choose "All add-ons."  (A small drop-down menu located on the left side.)
  4. In the list of add-ons, select "Adobe PDF Reader."
  5. Click the Enable button.

ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS:   

  1. Ensure an updated version of Adobe Acrobat's (free) Reader software is installed on your computer. Go to https://get.adobe.com/reader and follow the download instructions.
     
  2. Ensure the Adobe PDF Reader software is set to allow PDFs to open from a browser:
    1. Open Adobe PDF Reader
    2. Click "Edit" at the top menu bar
    3. Select "Preferences" from the drop down menu
    4. Click the "Internet" category
    5. Check "Display PDF in browser"
    6. Click "Ok"
       
  3. All forms can also be saved by right-clicking and select "save as" from your browser.
