Outside Plant Engineer

This is a versatile position and plays a vital role impacting project success, customer experience, and operations excellence. You are a telecommunications specialist who designs, plans, and maintains the physical infrastructure located between the service provider's central office and the customer's premises. This "outside plant" includes everything in the field: fiber optic cables, underground conduits, utility poles, pedestals, and handholes.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and engineer fiber and telecom outside plant facilities (aerial and underground)
• Conduct site surveys and field verification to support accurate designs
• Interpret and maintain engineering drawings, maps, and documentation
• Coordinate and support construction activities, contractors, and field crews
• Maintain and update GIS and network records, staking sheets, permits, and job files
• Manage right-of-way, easements, permits, and regulatory compliance
• Coordinate with local, state, Tribal, and utility partners
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, NESC, and company policies
• Support preventative maintenance and identify process improvements
• Communicate project updates with internal and external stakeholders
• Follow cybersecurity and data management best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maps
• Strong computer, organizational, and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently in office and field environments
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the service area

Preferred

• Experience in telecom, broadband, or outside plant engineering
• GIS or mapping experience
• Knowledge of construction, surveying, or right-of-way processes
