Getting to Know NTCA Member Relations Manager Jennifer Benson
Jennifer Benson is delighted to engage with members in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Utah. She is fortunate to travel to beautiful, diverse rural areas to visit with NTCA members and welcomes the opportunity to help members and their employees navigate their NTCA benefit plans.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Layton, Utah, best known for Hill Air Force Base. Back then, it was a smaller town with farmland and only a few subdivisions, which later became a large city I barely recognize today. I came from a big family of six kids and was a bit of a tomboy, always riding my bike, and enjoyed many sports. Later, I found a love for music and dance, and I also excelled in track, specifically the 400-meter run.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my amazing husband, Jonathan, for nearly 32 years. Together, we enjoy spending time outdoors, hosting backyard gatherings with family and friends, and whenever we can, cruising scenic byways on our motorcycle. I am the proud mother of four incredible children and one grandchild—my greatest joys and proudest accomplishments.
Hobbies or interests?
I love traveling, especially to my favorite Caribbean beaches, and I accidentally discovered a passion for acrylic painting during a family painting night. I also love nature walks and paddleboarding in the mountains above my home. When I’m not working, I enjoy Mexican food, a Diet Dr. Pepper, and caring for my lively flock—Wobbie, Senior Duck-Duck, four additional ducks, and eight chickens. Above all, I’m often known for my too-generous heart, always ready to drop everything to support my children and spend time with them.
How'd you get started in the industry?
After my second child was born, we moved to Fairview, where I was blessed to stay home for eight years. I reentered the workforce at CentraCom here in my hometown, where I was introduced to the telecommunications arena. I worked there for nearly 15 years in several positions and made great connections that led me to my next chapter.
When did you start working for NTCA, and why do you like working for NTCA as an MRM?
In April 2019, I was hired as a Member Relations Manager, and now, seven years later, I’m still unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to serve our amazing NTCA members. I continue to pinch myself that I have a job I truly love—one that allows me to travel through the beautiful scenery of the West and Northwest while doing meaningful work with great people. I love my fellow MRM team members and enjoy working with the amazing NTCA Asheville and Arlington staff.
Any interesting or quirky facts about yourself you’d like to share?
According to my family, I have a special gift for nursing animals back to health, from bummer lambs and runt pigs to splayed-leg chicks. My home office is shared with Wobbie, my loyal 11-year-old Border collie mix, who keeps watch over the chickens and ducks and eagerly awaits my return from work travels. I’m also known for creating my own version of sign language, understood only by those closest to me (ask me about a ham sandwich!). And as a treasure trove of trivia about my home state, I often joke that I could become a Utah tour guide in retirement.
