(August 4) In comments filed with the FCC, NTCA stated that relaxation of the National Television Multiple Ownership Rule would further hamper small rural providers’ ability to negotiate with broadcasters for reasonable retransmission consent fees. Rural consumers already bear the brunt of significant year-over-year increases in these fees, and recent evidence suggests that retransmission consent fees may not always serve their intended purpose of supporting local programming.
