NTCA Discusses Barriers, Disincentives to Achieving Further Progress on IP Transition

(July 1) In a meeting with FCC staff, NTCA discussed current regulatory requirements that stand in the way of further progress in the IP transition and end-to-end IP connectivity for important applications like call authentication. NTCA noted that its members are leaders in the IP transition, yet many upstream carriers continue to utilize TDM technology that could be replaced if outdated regulatory constructs are updated. NTCA further cautioned the commission to address these issues while also ensuring that rural consumers do not absorb all of the costs, but rather retain access to affordable services.
