Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reports To:  Financial Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

 

General Summary                                                   

Responsible for processing all payments of goods and services necessary for the operation of the Company, as well as preparing associated journal entries and reports.

 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Responsible for regulatory reporting and filing including monthly federal excise and lifeline reports, monthly NECA data entry and annual unclaimed property and gross receipts filings 
  • Assist with annual audit and cost study preparation. 
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for review after all entries have been posted 
  • Responsible for Carrier Access Billing (CABS) including monthly payments and balancing and handling of any billing disputes. 
  • Balance investments and prepare monthly investment schedules. 
  • Prepare monthly recurring journal entries and miscellaneous entries as needed. 
  • Assist customer service department with daily balancing of bank deposits, payments, and billing adjustments. 
  • Monthly balancing of capital credits and assist capital credit clerk with allocations and adjustments.
  • Monitor bank accounts, cash balances and monthly reconciliations. • Serve as a go-to person for the accounting department. 
  • Serves as a back-up for accounts payable accountant. 
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry accounting practices. 
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). 
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of state sales and use tax regulations. 
  • Knowledge of computerized general ledger and accounts payable software; experience with NISC software desirable. 
  • Knowledge of company products and services. 
  • Skill in using personal computer and Microsoft Office software. 
  • Skill in oral and written communication. 
  • Skill in problem solving. 
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions using the information at hand. 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments. 
  • Ability to think progressively and innovatively while quickly grasping and synthesizing new ideas. 
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player.

  • Ability to maintain positive attitude. Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable by WRT’s insurance carrier. 

 

Education and Experience

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent experience

is required.  Previous experience in telecommunications is preferred.

 

Reporting Requirements

Reports to WRT Headquarters in Hazen, ND and must reside within WRT service area.
