Fiber Optic Splicer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiber Optic Fiber Splicer to join our team. As a Fiber Splicer, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and associated equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our fiber optic network infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Splice and terminate fiber optic cables using fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques. 
  2. Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks using specialized equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources. 
  3. Diagnose and resolve fiber optic cable faults, signal degradation, and connectivity issues in a timely manner. 
  4. Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cables, splice enclosures, and related equipment. 
  5. Perform fiber optic cable audits and documentation of network infrastructure. 
  6. Collaborate with operations teams to plan and execute fiber optic network expansion projects. 
  7. Adhere to safety standards and procedures while working with fiber optic equipment and in various work environments. 
  8. Keep accurate records of splicing and testing activities, equipment inventory, and maintenance schedules. 
  9. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to fiber optic splicing and network infrastructure. 
  10. Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities. 
  11. Provide technical support and assistance to customers, including explaining installation procedures and troubleshooting network problems. 
  12. Overtime and on-call as needed. 

Qualifications: 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in fiber optics preferred. 
  2. Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Fiber Splicer in telecommunications or related industry. 
  3. Proficiency in fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques. 
  4. Strong understanding of fiber optic network architectures, components, and testing equipment. 
  5. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation. 
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  7. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. 
  8. Willingness to work in various environments, including outdoor settings and confined spaces. 
  9. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different job sites as needed.
