The Outside Plant Manager at Amherst Communications will have a diverse set of responsibilities that revolve around the maintenance, operation, and expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Network Infrastructure Management: Overseeing the maintenance and operation of the physical network infrastructure, including underground and aerial fiber optic cables, conduits, pedestals, handholes, splitters, and cabinets. This involves regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure network reliability and performance. 
  • Project Management for Expansion and Upgrades: Managing projects that involve expanding the telecom network or upgrading existing infrastructure. This includes planning, budgeting, overseeing construction activities, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. 
  • Technology Implementation and Upgrades: Keeping abreast of technological advancements in telecommunications and power systems. Implementing new technologies to improve network efficiency, capacity, and resilience. 
  • Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery: Developing and executing emergency response plans for scenarios that could impact telecom infrastructure, such as natural disasters. Ensuring rapid restoration of services and infrastructure repair in the aftermath of such events. 
  • Budget Management: Responsible for controlling expenses related to the maintenance and expansion of the physical plant and power systems. Preparing budgets and ensuring cost-effective operations. 
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keeping detailed records of maintenance activities, project progress, and power system operations. Preparing reports for higher management and regulatory authorities as required. 

This role requires a deep understanding of telecom infrastructure, including the intricacies of managing power systems, and the ability to adapt to the unique challenges of rural environments.
