NTCA Urges FCC to Act Quickly to Delay Lifeline Discount for Voice Only Services

(Oct 18) In a meeting with staff from the FCC’s Office of the Acting Chairwoman, NTCA emphasized the importance of swift FCC action to delay the phase out of Lifeline support for voice only services.  NTCA pointed to providers’ need to eliminate the Lifeline discount beginning with November 1 billing statements in order to comply with the thirty days’ advance notice requirement for any rate changes.  NTCA also noted that pausing the phase out of Lifeline support after providers send the necessary notice would cause significant customer confusion.
