NTCA Urges FCC to Require Experimental Technologies Prove They Can Deliver Before Bidding in Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) Auction

On March 5, 2020, NTCA's Mike Romano and NRECA's Brian O'Hara met with officials from the Wireline Competition Bureau. They urged the Commission to consider in more detail the ways in which the RDOF program and other federal and state programs might be leveraged in tandem to achieve better and faster broadband deployment, and the importance of ensuring that service providers will be capable of delivering on the promises they make when they bid in the RDOF auction. Rather than presume that experimental technologies can deliver promised service until proven otherwise, NTCA told the Commission that any experimental technologies should be required to prove that they can deliver before they are allowed to bid in certain higher-performing speed tierrs.
