NTCA Joins Industry Partners in Letter to Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission Opposing Sprint T-Mobile Merger

On April 18, 2019, NTCA, along with a group of various companies, trade associations, labor organizations and public interest groups, submitted an Open Letter to the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission, uniting in opposing to the Sprint-T-Mobile Merger. The letter expressed concern the merger would not benefit telecommunication services to rural Americans but instead undermine the services that already exist.

NTCA's Shirley Bloomfield Meets with Commissioner Geoffrey Starks to Discuss Rural Telecom Issues

On April 1, 2019, NTCA CEO, Shirley Bloomfield and Vice President of Industry, Mike Romano, met with new FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks and his legal advisor, Randy Clarke to discuss rural telecom issues. NTCA highlighted the association's members long-running efforts to deploy networks and provide robust and reliable communication services to rural America.

NTCA Discusses the Elimination of the Rate Floor Policy with FCC Staffers

On April 1 and 2, 2019 Mike Romano met with staff from the Offices of Commissioner O'Rielly and Commissioner Carr to discuss the draft report and order released by the FCC regarding the rate floor policy. NTCA expressed its support for the elimination of the rate floor policy and mentioned any delay of action by the FCC in regards to the rate floor policy would cause significant harm to rural consumers.

NTCA Documents Role of Broadband in Ag, Rural Manufacturing in Comments to Farm Service Agency

On April 1, 2019, NTCA filed comments to the Farm Service Agency on Spectrum Requirements for Commercial Agriculture, Forestry, Mining and Rural Manufacturing. NTCA submits that access to spectrum is critical to support industrial and agricultural undertakings and contends that broadband supports the economic viability of rural America.

NTCA expressed its support for the elimination of the rate floor policy and mentioned any delay of action by the FCC regarding the rate floor policy would cause significant harm to rural consumers.

NTCA Discusses Performance Measurement Testing with Wireline Competition Bureau

On March 19, 2019, NTCA members and staff met with staff from the Wireline Competition Bureau to discuss Performance Measurement Testing. Although, NTCA reiterated its support for rigorous testing standards that confirm the deployment of broadband networks, NTCA noted that providers have identified numerous issues relating to their ability to implement testing within the parameters and timeframe proposed by the Commission.
