NTCA Files Reply Comments on Methods of Reporting for Connect America Fund Auction Winners

On November 13, 2018, NTCA filed reply comments to the Commission's Public Notice regarding methods of reporting for Connect America Fund II (CAF II) auction winners. NTCA supports allowing CAF II auction winners to utilize any or all of the methods recognized by USAC for establishing locations and that any methods should be data driven, verifiable and rely upon already well-established third-party resources.

On November 13, 2018, NTCA's Brian Ford spoke with Zenji Nakazawa, Public Safety and Consumer Protection Advisor to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai regarding methods to target and eliminate unlawful robocalls. NTCA discussed ways the Commission could reduce the incidence of a consumers receiving calls that are unwanted to reassigned telephone numbers.

NTCA CEO, Shirley Bloomfield Discusses High-Cost USF Support with Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel

On November 9, 2018, Shirley Bloomfield, and Mike Romano, met with Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and her chief of staff, Travis Litman to discuss ongoing concerns in regards to the sufficiency and predictability of federal high-cost universal service fund (USF) support. NTCA encouraged the FCC to adopt and implement a straightforward set of reforms to the already-existing USF mechanisms that will promote effective and responsible use of USF resources.

NTCA Files Opposition to Petitions for Reconsideration regarding Accelerating Wireless Broadband Deployment

On November 9, 2018, NTCA filed Opposition to Petitions for Reconsideration regarding Accelerating Wireless Broadband Deployment by Removing Barriers to Infrastructure Investment. NTCA comments reflect the need for NTCA members to access utility poles at reasonable terms and conditions to provide new and upgraded communications to rural consumers.

NTCA Discusses CAF II Auction with staff from Chairman Pai's Office

On November 9, 2018, NTCA's Mike Romano met with Preston Wise, special counsel to Chairman Ajit Pai to discuss next steps with the Connect America Fund (CAF) Phase II auction. NTCA welcomed the efforts of the FCC to explore ways of promoting deployment of quality voice and broadband services in rural areas. NTCA noted that reasonable accountability remains essential to promoting effective use of high-cost USF support.

NTCA Meets with FCC staff to discuss Broadband Deployment and Infrastructure

On November 8, 2018, NTCA staff met separately, with Will Adams, Legal Advisor in the office of Commissioner Brendan Carr and Erin McGrath, Legal Advisor, Wireless, Public Safety and International in the office of Commissioner Michael O'Rielly to discuss how NTCA members have led the charge in deploying broadband-capable infrastructure in rural areas.

NTCA and West Telcom Services Discuss 8YY Access Charge Reform with Staff from Chairman Pai's Office

On November 8, 2018, West Telecom Services, LLC and NTCA discussed potential changes to the 8YY originating access charge reform with Nirali Patel, FCC Wireline Advisor to Chairman Pai. Both NTCA and West Telecom Service noted that their positions were aligned and consistent with independent fillings in the proceeding.
