Know Anyone Who is eXtremely eXceptional?

Whether you are a leader, colleague or just joining us in the rural broadband industry, you likely know someone who has performed above and beyond or given of themselves in a way that impacts others’ lives. I love giving special recognition to my own team when I “catch” them performing extraordinary service and work.

Encouragement and recognition go a long way to lifting up not just those high achievers but everyone in our industry. Every year I hear story after story of members offering humanitarian aid, providing outstanding service, performing innovative achievements and exemplifying the ideals of all rural telecommunications systems.

One such story about two of our 2020 community outreach winners, Gary and Sondra Coy of Pioneer Telephone Cooperative in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, tells of their compassion and dedication to people in their community.

Gary and Sondra had learned of a couple with mobility issues in their town who were soon to be without a home after the city deemed their dwelling unlivable. The Coys joined a group of volunteers that developed a plan for the couple, accommodating their special needs. After a few months of help from contractors, the couple in need was able to move into a safe and refurbished home. I was moved by their story and proud that our organization includes so many folks who do great things for those they serve.

Those stories continue to cross my desk, and I know after meeting with so many of you, that you and your colleagues are doing tremendous work. Please take a moment and think about someone you can nominate for the highest recognition of individual achievement by NTCA. It’s easy to do and sharing these accomplishments with our entire industry lifts all of us up further. There are eight categories to choose from and nominations are free to submit. Be of service to your colleagues who have shown exceptional commitment to their community and our industry by giving them national recognition.
