Member Moments: Missouri Co-ops Honor Local Veterans

Working

Two Missouri cooperatives have joined forces to better their community through a “cooperative” of their own: Co-ops in Action.

Since 2017, Chariton Valley (Macon, Mo.) and Macon Electric Cooperative employees have organized community service projects to give back.

Last month, to commemorate Memorial Day, the volunteers cleaned headstones ahead of the holiday weekend at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. The cemetery, located in Jacksonville, Mo., has more than 1,900 veteran graves and is located on 100 acres of land.

“It is a great feeling to give back to the ones who served,” said Daren Dowell, public relations and economic development consultant at Chariton Valley. “Co-ops in Action is a program that allows us to give back and work with our neighboring cooperative.”
