Arlington, Va. (November 12, 2014)—FirstNet Acting General Manager TJ Kennedy said during an interview with NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield that the agency’s goal is to accelerate the deployment of the nationwide public safety broadband network.

“We need to speed deployment of the network, and the goal is to build out the network as quickly as practical,” said Kennedy, who said that leveraging what rural providers have already built is one way to speed deployment.

“Public safety is a 24/7 mission. …They [public safety professionals] deserve the best tools. It’s our job to get this rolled out and give them those tools to make it work,” said Kennedy.

The interview is the latest in NTCA’s series, “Broadband Beat With Shirley Bloomfield.” This and all episodes are available online. For more information about the video series, visit www.ntca.org/broadbandbeat or the NTCA YouTube channel.
