Arlington, Va., (February 25, 2015)—Jasper Schneider, acting administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS), said during an interview with NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield that investment in broadband infrastructure creates enormous opportunities and paves the way for great things to happen in rural America.

“I think we all need to keep challenging ourselves to be looking forward because the investment we make today in infrastructure isn’t about us. … It’s about the next generation,” said Schneider.

In his new role, Schneider’s list of priorities includes making sure RUS is staffed to meet borrowers’ needs and engaged with other rural stakeholders, telling the RUS story on Capitol Hill and at the FCC while finding new ways to promote the success of rural broadband.

The interview is the latest in NTCA’s series, “Broadband Beat With Shirley Bloomfield.” This and all episodes are available at www.ntca.org/broadbandbeat.
