Arlington, Va. (January 26, 2015)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield regarding the FCC’s enforcement action against Verizon with regard to rural call completion:

“NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association applauds the FCC’s continuing focus on ensuring that people in rural communities can communicate seamlessly with other parts of the country. These actions by the commission rely upon not only a fundamental duty to complete calls, but also obligations to track whether calls are completing and to investigate why calls may be failing. We hope that today’s action will remind other carriers and intermediate providers of the importance of all of these responsibilities. Much more remains to be done, however, to protect the integrity and reliability of our nation’s communications networks, and we look forward to further work to achieve this goal through a combination of effective rules, enforcement and education.”
