Arlington, Va. (March 29, 2016)—Dozens of NTCA members will convene at the White House Eisenhower Executive Office Building March 30 for an event hosted by the White House Rural Council centered on success stories and also the barriers to deploying telemedicine in the country’s most rural areas.

Building on the Obama administration’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to opportunity through quality, affordable health care, the event will highlight the essential role of telehealth in reaching high-need rural families and communities. Participants will identify and make recommendations on barriers and opportunities to increased deployment and participation in telehealth services.

NTCA today released the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield regarding the event:

“NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association is pleased to partner with the White House Rural Council to discuss issues critical to the success of rural America. Access to health care is a key component for a rural community, and it is clear that broadband can play a vital role in that regard. Telemedicine can keep essential services supported, and we look forward to engaging with the administration to build upon its commitment to expanding access to opportunity through quality, affordable health care.”
