Arlington, Va. (June 12, 2017)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today issued the following statement regarding Anne Hazlett being named assistant to the secretary for Rural Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to oversee the Rural Utilities Service, the Rural Business Service and the Rural Housing Service.
“We congratulate Ms. Hazlett on assuming a leadership role in rural development,” said NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield. “NTCA and its members are excited to continue working with someone already so familiar with rural telecom opportunities and challenges, and who we know will recognize the importance of continued coordination between the FCC efforts to sustain rural broadband and Rural Development programs at USDA that help to finance the construction of these much-needed networks in the first instance.
