Arlington, Va. (March 28, 2017)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today released the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield regarding the House vote to invoke the Congressional Review Act resolution to overturn the FCC’s recently adopted broadband privacy rules for Internet service providers (ISPs).

“NTCA has consistently championed consumer-centric principles of notice, choice and security in the debates over how best to protect consumer data online. At the same time, NTCA expressed concern about rules that would impose substantial new burdens and treat Internet Service Providers differently than other firms with access to that data,” said Bloomfield. “Today’s action in the House reinforces that effective privacy protections for broadband users should exist without placing unnecessary burdens on only one part of the Internet ecosystem. NTCA looks forward to working with other stakeholders to ensure more consistent, well-designed measures that protect, rather than confuse or mislead, consumers about their privacy expectations.”
